Battle of Shrewsbury
The battle, the first in which English archers fought each other on English soil, reaffirmed the effectiveness of the longbow and ended the Percy challenge to King Henry IV of England. Part of the fighting is believed to have taken place at what is now Battlefield , Shropshire , England , three miles north of the centre of Shrewsbury. King Henry IV had been supported by a number of wealthy landowners to whom he had promised land, money and royal favour in return for their continued support.
When the war ended, lands in and around Cumberland promised to the Percys were instead given to a rival. The promised money never materialised, and so the Percys revolted.
Popped out with the wife for an impromptu date night – food and service did not disappoint – went on a quieter week night, so apart from the 4 other tables, we were alone – had starters, main and one dessert – all were good, with good levels of service inbetween for drinks etc We’ve been here a few times. We’ve always had very good service. If you want a good beer or an excellent cocktail in Shrewsbury town centre then this is the place for you.
Jonny went the extra mile. You’ll recognise him by his impressive moustache! He took the time and trouble to inspire two children in the art of cooking, showing them around the restaurant and talking to them knowledgeably and enthusiastically about great food – thank you so very much, Jonny, you were brilliant. The menu is eclectic, covering cuisine from around the world. You will definitely not be disappointed by a visit to the House of the Rising Sun. All were well cooked, delicious, although slightly heavy-handed on the salt.
Delighted to see Little Creatures Pale Ale on the menu!

However, Shropshire has far more to offer than just a rich history. The county town of Shrewsbury is also well worth a visit: interestingly the town centre is still based on the original medieval street plan. Whilst exploring all that Shropshire offers, why not stay in one of the country house hotels listed below? The properties range from Fishmore Hall in Ludlow, a beautifully restored house to Albright Hussey Manor, a 16th century moated manor house.

Attractive Partners is a successful dating agency for professional men and women in Shropshire. We have many members in Shropshire including the major towns of Telford and Shrewsbury as well as the more rural parts of the county. Shropshire although a smaller county, is still a popular area with our members and we have many success stories from this area. One such story is of Tom and Rosemary.
Tom was a retired business advisor from Ludlow and Rosemary a retired estate agent from Church Stretton. They both joined the agency when they had retired and decided that now was the time to find a partner with whom to enjoy their newly found leisure time. We introduced them to each other, not just because of their age, distance apart etc but really because they both had a love of the sea and had always enjoyed sailing.
